“The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican Primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign,” Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks said in a statement Monday. “The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future.”
In an one on one interview with CNN’s Dana Bash Corey Lewandowski comments on his recent departure as Trump’s campaign manager. When asked why he was fired Corey Lewandowski responded:
“I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to that”
Lewandowski then goes on to talk about the historic rise of Donald Trump through the primaries. Saying that:
“I am proud to be a small part of that”
Obviously Corey Lewandowski knows why he was fired and at this point had decided to remain loyal to Donald Trump by not giving out the details of his dismissal. How long that loyalty will last we will see as time goes on.
Corey Lewandowski owes a Trump a tremendous debt after Trump defended him during the Michelle Fields assault hoax. Trump could of easily fired Lewandowski after the incident like many of the spineless candidates said they would have. But, instead he actively came out and defended him while providing video evidence of his innocence where the incident took place.
Without Trump’s backing during that time Corey Lewandowski could have been found guilty and his life ruined if the charges would have been prosecuted. Trump’s backing and the video evidence went a long way to clearing Lewandowski and all charges were dropped.
Trump also greatly lifted Lewandowski’s profile as a campaign manager because of the success of the campaign during the primaries. When it came time to switch over to the general election Trump hired Paul Manafort a very experienced and successful campaign manager.
Corey Lewandowski could have stayed on with the Trump campaign in a lesser but important role and evidentually landed a position in Trump’s administration if/when elected. He also could have been highly sought after for other campaigns in the future.
All Corey Lewandowski had to do was step aside a bit and work closely with Manafort but his ego would not allow it. If Lewandowski was truly interested in getting Trump elected he would have recognized Paul Manafort’s experience and been happy to work alongside him to get Trump elected.
Instead he tried to remain in control and alienated a lot of the staff which caused a lot of problems within the campaign and got him fired. I am sure Lewandowski was given plenty of warnings and chances to get with the program but he couldn’t drop his own ambitions to get the credit for Trump being elected and let someone with superior experience have the spotlight.
So at this point in time Lewandowski is remaining loyal to Trump and we will see how long that last. If at any time he turns on Trump and actively starts helping Trump’s opponents we will know for sure that he was never interested in seeing Trump elected but only looking after his own ambitions.
I’ll repeat… Corey Lewandowski owes Trump big time.
